What’s happenin’??? Moore is, that’s what!

Here are our staff’s picks for some awesome Moore County events for the first part of this week. Check back here and on social media later in the week for the weekend’s picks!

Friday

  • Start your spooky weekend, full of tricks and treats, with a little calorie burning (so you can enjoy an extra Reese’s pumpkin guilt-free) at the Sandhills Scarecrow Stroll. It’s run all month long, and it’s free, so today’s your last chance to go see some scary scarecrows. It runs from 8 am to 7 pm at the Sandhills Horticultural Gardens, located at 3395 Airport Road in Pinehurst.
  • Looking for another free event that doesn’t involve a bunch of sugary candy? We don’t blame you. Mosey on over to the Shaw House for a free tour, open to all ages. It goes from 1 to 4 pm.
  • Y’all didn’t think we could post Halloween events and skip out on a chance for candy, did you? While our A1C levels might be a little elevated for this weekend, we can never pass on candy. Pass out candy? Yes. Pass on candy? No. We’re sure you’ve already planned the route around your neighborhood for your ‘regular’ trick-or-treat, but in case you need some more, check out Moore County Departments’ trunk-or-treat at the Rick Rhyne Center. It goes from 6-8 pm and is free, of course.

Saturday

  • Okay, you’re probably going to need a bit of a break physically and mentally after all of the events you’ve done for this busy week (because you’ve done everything we’ve suggested, right? Right??). Take a break, relax, and enjoy your weekend chock-full of more events, like Gulley’s Garden Center’s third annual fall fest from 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday. We’re seeing things like food trucks, ice cream for breakfast, and some live music!
  • If that doesn’t tickle your fancy, no worries — the Malcolm Blue Festival here in Aberdeen should! This is a rescheduled event from September 27th, with a $5 entry — the maximum for a family is just $20! Children under three are free as well. This is a blast from the past for everyone who yearns for the yesteryears (or just wants a wind-down from the sugar-fueled spontaneous jazzercise classes in the living room at 6 am the day after Halloween — again, we don’t judge).
  • Work with us, here, please. If you didn’t like those two options, surely you’ll appreciate the Moore County Humane Society at the Farmers Market from 8 am to 12 pm. We could say something witty about animals and shopping and all that, but the title sells this event, tbh. Support the humane society and get you some apple cider donuts if they have ’em. Save one for us, please. Oh, and there’s a chance to win a golf cart.

Sunday

  • Awka-akward, but we’ve run into a pickle here. We have too much stuff going on Sunday, and some of it overlaps. Fear not, though, we’ve curated a detailed itinerary for you to enjoy our hand-picked events. First, get you a Cuppa and head over to Cars & Coffee in downtown Pinehurst. This is one of the first things that I ever did when I first moved to North Carolina with my daughter, so it is something that is very cherished for me. That runs 9 to 11 am and is free. Great start to your day.
  • Right as that ends, scoot on over to Southern Pines Brewing for the Pop Up in the Pines market, which touts a ‘Pint-sized Pasture Petting Zoo,’ live music, food, coffee, and a plethora of local vendors. Oh, and uh, there’s beer at the brewery. In case you needed more persuasion. That runs 11 am to 4 pm for a little brunch time to early evening (or whatever timeframe you call that).
  • A little bit of an overlap here, but no worries, there is room for both in the schedule. The Flannel Fest & Sunday Farmers Market at James Creek Cider House is an important one, because it is the FINAL farmers market of the season there, so you surely don’t want to miss this one.
