What’s happenin’??? Moore is, that’s what!
Here are our staff’s picks for some awesome Moore County events for the first part of this week. Check back here and on social media later in the week for the weekend’s picks!
Monday
- Hand-built spiral serving plate pottery class with North Carolina potter Beth Roy at ARTworks Vass looks like a fun way to get the creative juices early in the week. Who doesn’t love some homemade, fine dinnerware? Unfortunately, Monday’s session is sold out, BUT we thought this was so cool it belonged at the beginning anyway. Only two tickets (at the time we are writing this) are left, and they are $59 each. The class goes from 6-9 p.m.
- It might be cutting it close by the time you read this, but the PGA of America Carolinas Sandhills Chapter is hosting its 2025 Pro-Am golf tournament at Seven Lakes Country Club for a chance at $2,500 worth of cash and prizes. The tournament benefits the Autism Society of North Carolina. Entry is closed by the time you’re reading this, but it’s always good to get the word out about something like this.
- Louvre your Mona Lisa at home, the Art Council is discussing Johannes Vermeer and the Girl with a Pearl Earring (see what we did there?) on Monday night OR Wednesday morning — an event so nice they held it twice! It’s a part of their art lecture series, and it will be held at the Campbell House at 482 E. Connecticut Avenue in Southern Pines. Tickets are $26 if you’re a member of the council and $32 if not.
Tuesday
- If Monday’s event for Vermeer and his infamous painting wasn’t enough, or you couldn’t make it, don’t worry, Tuesday has the Art on Screen series of it. It is noted that this is in conjunction with the lecture series, and it also has a second screening on Thursday, so if you can, try to do both. Cost is $24 and is at the Sunrise Theater. Tuesday’s showing is at 2 P.M., while Thursday’s is at 7 p.m.
- Wine? Books? Shopping? Catch all three at the Shopping Night to benefit the Friends of the Aberdeen Library, hosted by the Eloise Trading Company. Part of the night’s sales go towards the foundation, and it also includes a wine tasting. Seriously, what isn’t there to love here? It goes from 5-7 p.m. and will take place at 111 W. Main Street in Aberdeen.
- On the topic of books, the Southern Pines Public Library is hosting a Creativity Club at Fire Station 82 in Carthage from 3:45-4:45 p.m. This free event for kiddos K-5 “offers fun, hands-on activities for kids.” Note that caregiver participation is required here.
Wednesday
- Getcha vote on! The 2025 municipal elections early voting starts on Wednesday, going from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and the follow-up on Saturday with the same hours. One-stop early voting takes place at the Moore County Agriculture Center or the Aberdeen Recreation Center, and a photo ID is required.
- The town of Carthage is honoring military members, both past and present, with tribute banners. This is a repeating event until they are all hung by Veterans’ Day. What a great way to honor the sacrifices of our brave men and women.
- Workouts aren’t just for your body anymore, as The Moore County Senior Center is hosting Brain Boost classes every Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. The event notes you can “flex your ‘memory muscles'” and promises to be interactive and lively.
Thursday
- What says fall more than farmers’ markets? Okay, probably a lot of things, BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t go enjoy them still. A recurring one, every Thursday, takes place at Armory Sports Complex from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. and is free to enter. Make sure to share with us your fave pickups from these!
- Double, double, toil and trouble, the Halloween Witch’s Brew banquet at Dewberry Cafe in Cameron not only includes food prepared by chef Mark Turner (and 4 courses at that!), but also a beer tasting beforehand. This is a performative event, and as an added bonus, you’ll receive 15 percent off antique purchases downstairs at Old Hardware Vintage Depot. Spots are limited to just 30.
- Trivia time! Rudino’s Pizza and Grinders at 135 Pinehurst Ave. in Southern Pines hosts trivia every Thursday from 7 – 9 p.m. alongside some great specials like $4 domestic pints (with the option to upgrade to 22 oz. for just $1 more 👀), $5 Sour Patch Kids shots, and $5.50 premium pints (with the same 22 oz. upgrade offer as before). Get your grub and drink on while being the biggest nerd in the room!
